Justin Morrow Receives Frazier Thompson Award from Alma Mater Notre Dame

Justin Morrow ’10, former Notre Dame men’s soccer standout and team captain, has been honored with the Frazier Thompson Award for his exceptional contributions to inclusion and belonging within the Notre Dame community. After graduating from the Mendoza College of Business and enjoying a 12-year Major League Soccer career with San Jose and Toronto FC, Morrow became a leading advocate for racial equity in sports.

In 2020, he co-founded Black Players for Change (BPC), a coalition of over 170 MLS members working to promote racial justice and diversity in soccer. Under his leadership, BPC earned the 2020 MLS WORKS Humanitarian of the Year Award for advancing access, representation, and advocacy across the sport.

Now serving as the Head of Sports Programs and Partnerships at the USC Race and Equity Center, Morrow collaborates with major organizations—including LA28, MLB, and the NWSL—to drive systemic change through sport. Beyond athletics, he has championed social reform initiatives, such as ending juvenile life without parole in Ohio and supporting community safety efforts in Cleveland. His broad impact on equity and justice has also earned him the 2023 ACC Unite Award.

I am honored to be recognized with the Frazier Thompson Award as I know that this work is bigger than any one person,” Morrow said. “I stand alongside the community of athletes using sport as a force for good, including those who came before me and whose leadership made it possible for me to do this work. This recognition is a timely reminder that the values of inclusion are needed in both sport and society, and I remain committed to turning those values into action.
